Portugal has much in common with its peninsular neighbour Spain, fine beaches, a glorious cultural heritage, copious amounts of sunshine and a very relaxed attitude to life- but definitely has a distinct character all of it’s own.
Portugal has a renowned reputation for hospitality that makes the country a haven of congeniality and safety.
Since joining the EC in 1986 it has enjoyed steady economic growth, with a growth rate higher than the European average and with unemployment amongst the lowest in Europe.
Although a small country (only two-thirds the size of England), Portugal is made up of five distinct regions each with a unique character, as well as the Atlantic Ocean archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores.
Flight times from major UK airports vary from just over 2 hours to Porto, around 2 ¾ hours to Lisbon, 3 ½ hours to Faro and about 4 hours to Funchal (Madeira) and are well served by a variety of airlines. |
